BORN TO CREATE DRAMA CLOSED

Since its inception over 15 years ago, the tagline ‘Born to Create Drama’ has carried the same distinctive message: a simple but effective way of signifying the talented directors we search for and champion.

This year, in a bid to unearth more untapped talent, we are offering you the chance to shoot a film for the YDA based on this very tagline: ‘Born to Create Drama’.

We want to see films which attest to this innate desire to create. We want a story that shows that this creative drive begins in childhood, and how, eventually, it can lead to the moment where a young talent enters a film into the YDA.

Your film can be anything up to three minutes long, and it is up to you to set the tone; from humorous to scary, exciting to unsettling, sombre to upbeat…as long as it makes us sit up and pay attention.

The films will be judged by the YDA Team and our favourites will be posted on our social media for all the world to see, with an overall winner picked in May. If entrants are eligible, all showcased entries will be entered into the relevant category in the main competition free of charge. The winner will introduce our ceremony in 2022, and be featured in the prestigious shots magazine.

‘Born to Create Drama’ is open to everyone, whether you’re a young director or not, whether you’re filming alone with your smartphone, or going traditional and getting a film crew involved…so what are you waiting for?

The rules:

- Maximum 3 minutes in duration.

- Films must include the “Born to Create Drama” tagline, an example of which can be seen here.

- Films must include the YDA2022 logo (available from the entry form).

BEST USE OF MUSIC NEW

(Introductory price - 50% reduction)
Music is one of the most important tools a director has in their arsenal. It is fantastically effective at establishing the mood and meaning in a film. As such, we are interested in seeing the most creative and compelling use of a soundtrack. Films entered in ‘Best Use of Music’ are also eligible to enter other YDA categories.

CHANGING THE WORLD FRAME BY FRAME

The nature of these films cannot be confined to that of a traditional commercial. DREAMPITCH

Directors are at the heart of what the YDA is about, but many of those directors would be lost without the scripts from which they work.
At the centre of every good film is a great idea that has come ahead of anything else, and a truly great idea doesn’t need an essay to explain it.
We are looking for great ideas that can be pitched in a maximum of 100 words; words which will inspire our international jury of industry experts and creatives, and could go on to attract the attention of an agency/brand/streaming platform/producer and, of course, a director.
You can enter Dreampitch ideas for the following categories:
– Changing the World Frame by Frame
– Branded Film (of any length)
– Short Film
– Series
