Arundati Thandur is a Sydney-based writer and director. Born into a family of actors, singers and performers, she has always found herself drawn to storytelling. Her work is visually rich, impactful, and often tinged with humour. Whether working with real people or actors, performance is at the centre of her approach. Thandur’s short documentary PURRR was an official selection at Queer Screen’s Mardi Gras Film Festival, and her 2023 branded Series for ModibodI picked up 4 gold medals at the LIA Awards and New Director at Ciclope 2023. |

English Synopsis: |
Over 5 episodes released as a series, ‘I’m Dying Inside’ follows four housemates as they navigate the awkwardness of life as a young adult while on your period. The director connected to a Gen Z audience by casting all actors from her wider network and weaving their personalities through the series in a writer’s room. This was the director’s first ever commercial work and the series has amassed over 12 million TikTok views, while successfully changing the demographic of ModiBodi customers. |

Casting a diverse ensemble of female and non-binary actors, comedians, and TikTok stars was essential to the series's authenticity, relatability and humour. Convincing chemistry was a must, so in casting the director combined actors who have comedic chops, with a TikTok star who has followers for leverage - a balanced approach which led to the success of the series. The diverse subcultures of Gen Z were represented through the actors' contributions to the writing and styling of their characters. Intensive rehearsals enabled 5 episodes to be captured in just 2 shoot days, with only enough time for a few takes per shot. Assembling a Gen Z cast and crew, the director pushed filmmaking boundaries, employing sharp writing and original music to hook viewers within the first 3 seconds of the episode, while maintaining the production value of television within a 9:16 aspect ratio. |
